The ethics of innovation build a bridge between a critical reflection of technology on the one hand and the idea of understanding ethically-motivated objectives as an essential impetus for innovation on the other. Thus, the core of the Ethical Innovation Hub's work is not a retrospective techno-ethical analysis, but rather a constructive consideration of ethical, legal and social aspects already from the beginning of an innovative development.
This requires not only that the ethical aspects of an R&D product are proactively addressed, but also that the process of innovating itself is considered. Therefore, participatory development approaches that capture and integrate the concerns of all relevant stakeholders and thus create an open but critical culture of discussion and development are essential for realizing the ethical potential of an innovation.
